A Hunting Mural for the Whole Fam

Hey everyone!

This mural went in the playroom of a sweet new client family's home. I've come to know them a little bit, and enjoy their energy and their aesthetic. For this mural, they asked for something that would please all of them - the husband, the wife, and the kids. The husband is a hunter, and asked to include an elk with exactly 6 points on his antlers, as well as other elk hunting imagery, like the rubbed off spot on the tree bark (I guess it's a "tell" that elk are near), and the muddy hole/pond that they drink from (or roll in? I forget.) The wife wanted a purple-y moonlit sky. The kids, well, they got a cool thing to look at in their awesome playroom. The owl mural I made a few weeks ago, is on the wall across from this one. We're still going to add at least one of two more little vignettes in this room. Should be a super cool space when it's done. Ahhhhh I just love pacific-northwest-ys and our need for bringing nature into the home, in all the various forms. Maybe that's just a universal thing though, nature. Either way, it makes this tree-hugging muralist happy.

Hi Everyone!

This week's mural had me travellin'! I got to paint this little ocean wall for a couple in Seattle. Conveniently, my best friend also happens to live there. Business trip meets weekend getaway! A day and a half of painting + the cutest neighborhood pub + the cutest neighborhood brunch place + the cutest neighborhood ice cream hot spot (for you Portlanders, think Seattle's version of Salt and Straw, but without the insane line) + catching up and late night talks over tea + cooking delicious dinner together = weekend success! (Can you tell I ate well?) I'm happy with how this little ocean scene turned out, and hoping that it brings many relaxing tub soaks, far into the future for my clients. Can you hear the waves? I love the Pacific Northwest and it's coastline.

In about 10 days, I will be headed wayyyyyy down the coast to paint an entirely different landscape of the Pacific: San Diego! I'll be working in another Memory Care facility that is being built there. I'm SO EXCITED to fill it with murals. Stay tuned, that will be a mural marathon for sure. paint paint paint. :)

Mirror-selfie of paint clothes/gear, and the wall only a couple hours in. And yes I stood in that bathtub all day!

TREES mural!

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share my latest mural in pictures. This one was soooo fun and relaxing to paint! People ask me a lot what my favorite thing to paint is. This is kind of it I'd say: playing with light, playing with brushstrokes, painting organic and natural things. Only thing that would have made it more fun and an ultimate answer to that question, would be if I could have added some kind of surreal, not-really-the-way-it's-supposed-to-look-in-real-life element to it. But, ya know, clients. I'll save the crazy for when I don't have one. ;) Hope everyone had a great weekend! More murals to come very soon.

Murals on the Horizon

Hey people!

Long time no blog. I gave myself a whole month, to not do any kind of commissioned work. I painted for myself, and took a little break. More on that in a later post. BUT, I'm just about to get back at it! Here's a little preview of some murals that are soon-to-be-painted. All residential murals this time, so they're all somewhat smaller. But, all these scenes have personal meanings to the clients who are commissioning them. I love being able to bring this kind of thing into people's homes: brightening their spaces, reminding them of happy memories, or reminding them of a place that makes them feel at peace. I just handed off all these "sketches" (photoshop collages) to my clients. Can't wait to get painting these! Excited!!

Mural Concept Sketches

Hi All,

As promised, here are the sketches for my current mural project! This will be in a nursery for a baby boy. Hopefully the kid will still want it around once he gets older :) I'm suuuuper excited for this one. The subject matter is right up my alley - organic, colorful, atmospheric perspective, and overall....whimsical :) That's my favorite part - my clients wanted this forest to look like it was magical and special - someplace their son will be able to form stories about and help him to exercise his imagination. AND they want it more stylized and less hyper-realistic. This is SO ME. Can't wait to show you guys the progress... painting starts this week!

They chose the last sketch option shown here - the one with the stream added to the sunny forest. The only thing my clients wanted to add, was another animal in the bottom left. So it will have a cute fox peeking out of the grass. :) Excited!
